filzfun: Issue 53
winter 2016/2017

What a year it’s been! A wealth of exciting and highly interesting exhibitions, fairs, and meetings about felt and wool lies behind us: the first Members’ Exhibition and the Summer Course of Lectures of the Felt-Network, the Soul of Felt, where mostly Russian artists exhibited their creations, and the Textile Art in Berlin, to name just a few.
Even people, who are the fondest of traveling or obsessed with felting, cannot be a part of everything. That is why we report about the most important events of the world of felting and textile art that happened during the past months, in this winter issue of the filzfun. We also look at dates for next year – for example the German speaking Felter’s Meeting in Hohebuch in March.
Looking at creations of others can be inspirational for one’s own work. That is why we introduce some artists to you, who work very differently in felt. Margit Röhm discovers various creatures in her raw sheep wool card web and brings them into daylight. Susanne Weber designs pictures with finest color shades and details. Anita Simmler s well-known for her romantic flower children. For some time now they are joined by fanciful elves. The witty animals by Gabriele Mazaracis bring a good mood and can also be used as toys.
The Reader’s Gallery can be a source of inspiration for the pre-Christmas felt hours. It displays gift ideas,
Christmas decorations romantic lights and felt fashion for colder days under the theme »Winter Magic«. Beach balls and marbles from summer vacations can be tools for felting in winter: How an illuminated object can be created is described by blogger Ute Strunz in an extended step-by-step instruction.
If you love creatures, you can take part in the Skygazer Project by “eye-maker” Sigrid Uta von Graevenitz. You can see first impressions in this winter issue of the filzfun.
And as a special treat you can win a valuable price: We raffle off an online workshop by Sophia Wagner for lovely, cozy and durable felt slippers – the right project for the coldest weeks of the year.
