filzfun: Issue 68 autumn 2020

You will get to know three artistic personalities from three continents in this filzfun issue: Annette Quentin-Stoll, one of the best-known German feltmakers and the author of several gallery books tells us about her life without homepage and TV, yet with a lot of quality features instead. Sayaka Ono from Japan makes astounding sculptures from white wool but also extravagant accessories. One of the latter, a small bag in spike design she shares as a simple step-by-step instruction with our readers. Chris Armstrong from the U.S., who needle-felts fetching and whimsical animal scenes that bring to mind again dear childhood books like The Wind in the Willows, has had a wholly different life before he turned feltmaker: He supported and counselled criminals on death row. An exciting biography indeed!
Many courses and workshops that had been scheduled over months fell victim to the Corona-Pandemic as well. Still the crisis bore many creative ideas, also in our field of interest, on which we report in our Corona special: We show felt art around the subject and take you to online courses and a shop window exhibit.
Also the organizers of the Internationale Felt Art Exhibit around the motto „(Dis-)Guise” of the German Filz-Netzwerks had to change their plans: The first date of the travelling show was cancelled, but then at least the exhibit with its 50 show pieces by 44 artists took place in the Pfalzmuseum Forchheim. We are pleased to show some section from it as well as from Andrea
Noeske-Porada‘s show „see and notice" in The Netherlands and the Icelandic-Finnish joint exhibit around the subject „The Vanishing of Nature". Because staying at home is still the best strategy to fight COVID 19 you will receive a total of four instructions for felting projects to make at home : apart from Sayaka Ono’s small spiky bag a ravishing reversible shawl in nuno felt technique by Elvira Altdorf, a fairy-tale pin cushion with a miniature landscape by Roz Dace and Judy Balchin from a new Needle-Felt book and leads for water-coloring on felt by Ricarda Aßmann.
